Service Description
Step into the magic of stained glass with an MCD Afternoon with OKO Designs! Led by Angie Oko in her Mission District studio, participants will learn to copper foil and solder precut and ground glass to create stunning scrap stained glass suncatchers. Coinciding with MCD’s exhibition Judith Schaechter: Super/Natural, the workshop offers an accessible entry point into the rich world of stained glass. Participation in the workshop includes admission into the exhibition, an opportunity to explore Schaechter’s unique process, which has honed over the course of 30+ years of working with the medium. A stained glass artist unlike any other, Schaechter engraves on layers of colorful flash glass and leverages the resulting negative spaces to create incredibly detailed imagery. The exhibition’s namesake is Super/Natural, an 8-foot-tall, 5.5-foot-diameter dome, features 65 vibrant stained glass panels created during her residency at the Penn Center for Neuroaesthetics. Join us for an afternoon with MCD and OKO Designs! Let Angie Oko guide you through your stained glass journey and build appreciation for how Judith Schaechter is pushing the boundaries of the craft. You’ll walk away with your own suncatcher, guaranteed to bring joy and enhance the neuroaesthetics of wherever it is displayed! Please note: we work with flux (chemical which is needed to solder) and solder (melt metal with a soldering iron). Please sign the liability waiver before purchasing tickets especially for pregnant people. This class is not recommended if you are breastfeeding.
